Technology is changing so quickly it’s almost impossible to keep up. Of course you could read every blog, take some continuing education classes, and subscribe to the latest Web Designer mag… but who’s got that kind of time. We do have the most time consuming, tedious job out there by the way! You don’t have to re-invent the wheel to create impressive responsive websites- you just need to learn the grid system, and Foundation is just what the Web Designer ordered!

I’ve been cranking out hand-coded and WordPress sites for the last 4 years, and I’ve got to say that Foundation Responsive Web Design is a game changer for me. Not only does your site look amazing on any device, they’ve got a ton a nifty tools to help you along the way.

The Grid System

Typography

Buttons

Image Placeholders

Navigation

Forms

Tabs

JQuery Sliders

and tons of UI Elements

Seriously, I don’t think I’ll ever look back. Look for my latest creation using Foundation, March 2013.
Until then- learn the ways of FOUNDATION »

So you can no longer avoid it, you need a website, but you’re not sure where to start. We can help! Here is an overview of the website design process.

PHASE 1: DISCOVERY
This first phase must be addressed to accurately quote the cost of your project.

Why are you looking for a new website design or redesign?

What do you like most about your current website?

What do you dislike most about your current website?

What websites do you like most?

Who are your competitors?

What are your goals?

Who is your target audience?

Do you already have a domain name and hosting plan?

Do you want to sell products on your website?

Do you want a contact form or any other forms on your website?

Do you need an image gallery, video or other multimedia content?

Do you want a blog or other regularly updated content?

Do you have a color scheme you’d like to use?

What words would you like people to associate with your website?

Do you have a specific style of design in mind?

PHASE 2: PLANNING

Contracts that define roles, deliverables, and payments

Project timeline calendar

Site map design (pages and content hierarchy)

Gain access to client servers/ or set up new accounts

Determine required software and resources (stock photography, fonts, etc.)

PHASE 3: DESIGN

Wireframe and design elements planning – This is where the visual layout of the website begins to take shape. Using information gathered from you in the planning phase, we begin designing the layout using a wireframe.

Designing Mock-Ups – This is where you (the client) will be able to see the design come to life. Colors, textures and photos can be discussed during this phase.

Review and approval cycle – A cycle of reviewing, tweaking and approving the mock-ups often takes place until (ideally) both client and contractor are satisfied with the design. This is the easiest time to make changes, not after the design has been coded.

PHASE 4: DEVELOP

Build development framework – This is the point when the designer begins to turn the design mockup into code.

Fill with content – Content that you (the client) provided the Designer will now be inserted into the design.

PHASE 5: LAUNCH

Transfer to live server

Polish – last minute changes

Multiple platform testing (Firefox, IE, Safari)
